NSCC Dartmouth Waterfront Campus, Phase I and the Centre for the Built Environment, Phase II

Construction has started for Phase II on the Dartmouth Waterfront Campus site. The Centre for the Built Environment will contain shops and teaching facilities for programs in the building trades and will focus on training future participants for a building industry that faces significant environmental challenges. There will be a strong emphasis on 'green' building technologies for building performance, education delivery and research.  The building will contain innovative features such as bio-walls, green roof and brown roof systems, solar panels and photovoltaic arrays.  Wilson Fitt is Project Manager. Designers: Barrie & Langille Architects in collaboration with Moriyama & Teshima Architects.  Construction manager: EllisDon .

Completed early in 2007, the 260,000 sf Phase I campus is a signature building that makes the most of its spectacular setting overlooking Halifax Harbour. It contains a full suite of teaching and administrative facilities, a student commons, library, cafeteria and other amenities, and specialty spaces for new media and health sciences programs. The new building opened in January 2007 and was on schedule and under budget.
